Which One Do You Continue To Choose?

We’ve all heard the term “a fork in the road.”

I’m excited to be back on here guys! I hope you are all doing well. Here we are in yet another Fall season as the last quarter of yet another year is upon us. How was your summer? What’s one thing that surprised you? What is one thing you are looking forward to this Fall? Shoot me your responses to theitsjustjakeblog@gmail.com!

I’ve been plenty busy. Since the beginning of August alone I’ve recorded 4 podcast episodes, spoke at Lawrence & Schiller, was interviewed on KELOLAND Living, attended the Vikings home opener, took a mini vacation to Arizona, visited the farm, and launched my 2nd book! What a stretch.

The support for Why You Need To Fail has been great - thank you! Over the past 2 months I’ve met a lot of people in person and received messages with a common question. What all went into writing it?

I went in-depth on my story with Tim Weidenbach during his interview series on Monday. You can find that conversation here if you’d like!

One of the things we talked about was that saying we’ve heard a thousand times - a fork in the road.

We’re faced with decisions each and every day. Some are simple, a few complex, and one we often get overwhelmed by. How do I choose? What if the choice I make is wrong? What if I fail? We ask ourselves these questions and become extremely anxious - before we have even decided! We’ve all been there. After I made a lot of wrong decisions I still had a big one to make - where do I go from here?

Left or right? Forward or back? To stay or leave? A fork in the road. My decisions brought me to a low I had never experienced before. I left everything I had ever known and moved out to Colorado. Shortly after that I felt completely disconnected from my family, friends, relationship, career, and did not have any real direction in life. I shared a few of those struggles in posts such as The Small Decision That Changed My Life, A Glimpse Into My Journey, and Why?

After months of struggle I simply had to make a decision - and I did.

I am not going to live like this anymore. I am going to change my life.

We all have that decision. We have the power to choose.

How do you want to live your life? We’ve always known this intuitively but perhaps haven’t given in. We stay stuck, we keep making the same mistakes, we don’t leave the job we hate because we fear what’s on the other side. I’ve said this before - fear is your intuition telling you that it’s the right thing to do. Is it easy? No. It is worth it? Absolutely.

Don’t wait for things to change - make them happen. We can’t tell what the future holds because all we have is right now. Take the time to figure out what kind of life you want to live and then base your decisions on that. Will they all work out perfectly? No. Stick with it. That’s all we can do after all. Make a decision, and through the ups and downs that will certainly come, keep your long-term destination in mind.

In Chapter 7 of Why You Need To Fail, appropriately titled The Power Of Choice, I talk about our decisions and the outcomes. It is always up to us. I leave you with a quote from that chapter below and urge you to take a deeper look at your life.

The Power Of Choice.
